When the Junebugs decide that this pear is the very best one on the tree 🤣. Ok, you guys can have this one. We’ll use the rest to make our Avalon Farms Ginger Pear and Pear Honey jams. These are on the pear tree that was “the old pear tree” when Wendy’s dad was a little boy. He’s in his mid 70s now.

We love love love (love!) selling our farm’s naturally grown produce and eggs at farmers markets. But after being up late the night before preparing things, then getting up at 4 to load and drive, and being out in the South Alabama heat for 5 hours, we usually feel like one of our wilted table displays when we finally get back home.

Loading up one of the aquaponics beds with basil, cilantro and celery. What’s aquaponics? It’s hydroponics (growing plants in water), but instead of adding liquid plant nutrients, the water runs through another tank that contains fish. It’s a symbiotic sustainable relationship. The fish output provides the nutrients the plants need, and the plants clean the water for the fish. Works great!

Can you spot the mighty hunter so carefully hiding in the tall Savannah grass? (Savannah Sudan grass actually; it’s a cover crop for next year in one of the farm gardens)
